Polyether Silicone Oil As a Superlubricant for Engineering Steel Tribopairs

The development of a new type of superlubricious oil is of great significance for the minimization of energy dissipation in moving mechanical systems.polyether silicone oil In this regard, directly induced superlubricity is desirable due to its easy shear ability and the formation of an organic lubricious film which could effectively passivate friction surfaces. In this study, it is demonstrated for the first time that precisely employing polyether modification of silicone oil molecules could induce direct superlubricity and ultralow wear for engineering steel tribopairs in liquid environments.

Polyether modified silicone oil is a unique nonionic surfactant obtained by graft copolymerization of ethylene oxide with dimethylsiloxane.polyether silicone oil It has a wide range of applications in many industries. For example, it can be used as a plastic greenhouse film additive to improve light transmittance and as an internal additive for paints and coatings to produce anti-fog. It can also be used as a release agent for polyurethane foam molding and injection molding.

In addition, it can be used as a softening finishing agent for textiles.polyether silicone oil It can increase the whiteness of fabric after finishing, and its hydrophilic groups can form a water emulsion with other surfactants to achieve smooth hand feel. It also has good acid, alkali and hard water stability.

Compared with commercially available amino silicone oils and other amino-modified silicone oils, the polyether block amino silicone oil softening finishing agent of the present invention has excellent fabric whiteness after finishing, close to or even super high blank fabric whiteness; it is easily dispersible in water to form a stable water emulsion; and its water solubility and hydrophilicity are significantly improved by adding silane coupling agents to the polyether chains.

The aliphatic side chain of polyether silicone oil has a high water solubility and is soluble in alcohols. It is a major component of self-emulsifying defoamers and exhibits superior performance in a variety of applications under harsh conditions, such as high-temperature dyeing processes for polyester fabrics and ethanolamine aqueous solution desulfurization systems. It is also resistant to acids and alkalis, making it ideal for use in various oils, cutting fluids and antifreeze.

In addition to its superior defoaming properties, the aliphatic side chain of polyether-modified silicone oil has high shear resistance and excellent compatibility with resins. It can promote the homogeneous dispersion of resins in aqueous coating formulations, prevent surface sagging and cracking during drying, enhance the lubricity between metals and tribopairs, and reduce the tendency to foam in aqueous cleaning solutions. It can be used as a major leveling and slip agent in water-based coatings, and is especially useful in photosensitive resin plate making. It can be added to aqueous wash solutions used for washing uncured photosensitive resin plates, preventing the foaming of the washing solution under high shear force and thereby improving printing quality. Moreover, it can be used as a replacement for ordinary dimethyl silicone oil in photosensitive resin plate printing to avoid residual dimethyl silicone oil on the surface of the finished plates.
